Course Overview Our BA Modern Languages program is tailored to help you enhance your multilingual abilities, dive into the rich cultures associated with these languages, embark on an international experience, and unlock opportunities for a global career. If you're passionate about languages and eager to explore the world while becoming a global citizen in an interconnected society, our four-year program promises a fulfilling and enriching academic journey. You'll gain priceless experiences interacting with people from varied cultural backgrounds through collaborations with our exchange partners and the International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP)—a network spanning more than 300 universities worldwide—giving you access to destinations across the globe, including a full year abroad in your third year. For instance, our students have recently completed year-long study placements in diverse locations, from Costa Rica and Mexico to Taiwan and Québec.This program provides a distinctive chance to refine your language and communication abilities while delving into the histories, philosophies, identities, and cultures of the nations tied to your chosen languages. You'll explore societal norms, traditions, cuisine, music, dance, sustainability, and much more, while examining the intricate connections between global languages and civilizations. You'll analyze political landscapes across different regions, encounter diverse viewpoints, and gain insight into how pivotal historical events have shaped contemporary global discussions.You can customize your studies by selecting one of our specialized pathways, such as Chinese and Spanish, Chinese and French, French and Spanish, or Spanish and Latin American Studies. Regardless of your chosen path, you'll begin with a shared first-year curriculum alongside peers and have the option to add an additional language to your core studies. Our program accommodates all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners. Furthermore, as a University of Chester student, you'll have access to complimentary part-time language taster sessions and evening classes during your studies.If a four-year commitment or a full year abroad isn't feasible for you, we also offer a three-year alternative, allowing you to study one, two, or three languages in combination.
