The Doctor of Philosophy in Intellectual History is an intensive research program culminating in a dissertation and oral defense. This degree focuses on developing and presenting a significant, self-directed scholarly work, typically completed within three years for full-time students or six years for part-time study. Exceptional candidates may submit early if they demonstrate accelerated progress.

Thesis topics in Intellectual History span a vast spectrum of human thought, encompassing areas from philosophical traditions and scientific discovery to the evolution and application of political and economic doctrines. With adequate supporting materials, nearly any dimension of intellectual heritage can serve as a valid research focus. Topic refinement is an ongoing process, with initial proposals often evolving during the first academic year.
