Our department's research spans the Hispanic and Lusophone regions, covering diverse periods from early modernity to today, with a geographic scope that includes the Americas, Africa, and Europe.
Much of our work focuses on exploring connections:
links between locations,
bridges across time periods,
intersections between academic fields.
Global culture and history form the foundation of our studies. We investigate how Spanish and Portuguese-speaking nations influenced global development across continents, examining their worldwide impact and developing innovative approaches to represent these connections through digital humanities, sports studies, translation, environmental studies, and indigenous history.
We encourage prospective students interested in customized research at either the master's (MPhil) or doctoral (PhD) level to apply. All postgraduate students engage in a dynamic schedule of research activities and play vital roles in the department's academic pursuits, contributing to the School of Modern Languages and the broader faculty.
