This four-year MSci program is designed for students pursuing scientific careers that require specialized subject knowledge and technical abilities. The initial two years mirror the MSci Chemical Physics curriculum, while the third year involves a 12-month paid industrial placement.
The curriculum emphasizes interdisciplinary topics bridging chemistry and physics, with minimal organic chemistry coverage and greater focus on physical and non-synthetic inorganic chemistry. Nuclear and particle physics are reduced after year one, with increased attention on materials science and nanotechnology.
Alongside traditional lectures and lab sessions, the program features small-group tutorials and workshops to explore complex concepts. Hands-on chemistry and physics laboratories cultivate experimental techniques, computational modeling, and programming competencies essential for the final year's research project conducted with an academic team.
