Experts in research, research management, policy advising, and service planning increasingly require timely and applicable studies. This program enhances the abilities and competencies necessary for conducting impactful social research across diverse policy environments.
Participants gain foundational training in social science philosophy and research design, supplemented by introductory and advanced instruction in both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.
Though emphasizing research techniques, the program maintains a strong commitment to social equity and how studies can enhance policies and beneficiaries' lives. Optional modules cover specialized policy domains like family and child welfare, gender studies and violence prevention, healthcare systems, socioeconomic disparities, and policy assessment. Participants may also explore specific policy interests through coursework and thesis projects.
The program acknowledges many participants' existing backgrounds as researchers, policy advisors, or planning professionals, creating opportunities to exchange and build upon this collective expertise.
Certain modules are delivered jointly with other graduate programs, fostering collaborative learning spaces where students can engage with peers pursuing advanced degrees in social work research and public policy studies.
