Key subjects cover animal capture and handling methods, emergency care and transport for injured wildlife, enhancing captive animal welfare, behavioral ecology principles, breeding initiatives for endangered species, rewilding captive populations, conservation tactics, and protected area management. The program also provides thorough grounding in wildlife diseases, One Health approaches, disease ecology, plus monitoring and containment strategies. You'll learn theoretical and applied geographic information systems, spatial analysis, and maximum entropy niche modeling using QGIS and Maxent open-source tools.
The MSc program is hosted at Bristol Veterinary School in Langford village near Somerset's Mendip Hills, offering proximity to Exmoor National Park and Southwest England's diverse wildlife habitats. Collaborative workshops and practical sessions with Bristol Zoological Society provide direct experience in exotic animal care within modern zoo environments.
