The Policy and International Development specialization explores how education policy intersects with global development efforts. It investigates how worldwide policy frameworks shape educational systems and how education advances equity, economic progress, and environmental sustainability.
Approaching development as a global concern, this pathway analyzes examples from various nations alongside local Bristol cases. It studies both structured and alternative learning environments across different institutions like schools, universities, and community groups.
This master's program critically examines social development concepts - including human rights, capability theory, and conflict resolution - and their educational policy applications. Students will investigate how pedagogical theories and methods transfer across different settings and adapt to local needs. The curriculum also evaluates major players in global education governance, from nonprofit groups and aid organizations to corporate entities.
This pathway enhances students' ability to utilize cross-national research for evaluating education systems and policies. Participants will cultivate their own analytical perspectives to assess educational strategies and education's developmental impact at international, national, and community scales. Exceptional library resources enable in-depth study of particular concepts, challenges, programs, and regulations relevant to each student's interests.
