This intensive one-year master's program delves into cutting-edge subjects within communication networks (both wired and wireless) and related signal processing, along with essential supporting technologies. It offers a prime chance to cultivate expertise for careers in rapidly evolving communication network sectors.
The curriculum draws from the world-class research of the Smart Internet Lab's Communications Systems and Networks, High Performance Networks, and Photonics and Quantum research teams. These groups lead innovative investigations in critical domains such as network structures, cross-layer communication, high-speed optical systems, and next-generation wireless technologies.
Course components include Optical Networks and Data Centre Networks modules. The Optical Networks segment examines wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems, time division multiplexing (TDM) technologies like SDH/SONET and OTN, optical frequency division multiplexing, and optical sub-wavelength switching networks. The Data Centre Networks module explores cloud computing infrastructures, cloud-based networking solutions, grid computing, and e-science applications. An additional networking component, Networked Systems and Applications, presents a comprehensive analysis of network infrastructure supporting distributed systems, ranging from traditional web and email services to IoT telemetry solutions.
