For those with a creative flair and passion for design who want to enhance our built environment, civil engineering offers the perfect path. This program prepares you to address worldwide environmental challenges while designing iconic structures and vital infrastructure that define communities - from bridges and buildings to water systems, transportation networks, and renewable energy solutions.
At Bristol, you'll work with cutting-edge laboratory equipment, including Europe's most sophisticated earthquake simulation platform.
This program expands your global perspective through cultural immersion. Your third year involves studying at an international partner university where instruction is in English. Past exchange destinations have included Sweden, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, the US, Hong Kong, and Singapore. While direct entry isn't available, exceptional performance in your first two years may allow transfer from related programs.
The initial years establish core engineering competencies through mathematics, structural principles, geotechnics, fluid dynamics, computing, and surveying, alongside elective options. Advanced years offer greater specialization while cultivating professional capabilities like project leadership, business acumen, economic analysis, and risk assessment.
Your international year follows Bristol's third-year curriculum before returning for your final year.
Design forms the program's backbone, evident in progressive projects. Early challenges involve sustainable problem-solving like model bridge construction, advancing to steel frameworks, concrete systems, foundation design, and hydraulic networks.
The capstone fourth-year group project integrates all acquired knowledge through real-world design briefs sourced from industry partners. These span diverse applications from transit systems to intelligent urban planning, and from high-rise developments to eco-friendly dwellings.
We develop tomorrow's civil engineering leaders. Our alumni join prestigious organizations across engineering consultancies, construction firms, utilities, defense, transportation, energy providers, and environmental agencies.
