During your initial year, you'll develop a comprehensive foundation in biomedical science, covering topics like microbiology and microbial diseases. You'll explore the immune system while also delving into pathology and biochemistry.
The second year focuses on cellular and molecular mechanisms behind human diseases caused by pathogens, including bacteria like shigella and tuberculosis, as well as viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. You'll examine immune responses to various infectious agents and study how bacteria develop antibiotic resistance.
Our eBiolabs digital tools will assist you in preparing for hands-on lab work during years one and two.
In your final year, you'll complete infection-focused units plus an elective. You'll also conduct a research project or dissertation, potentially working in the Biomedical Sciences Building's labs, hospital facilities, or teaching laboratories. Your research could contribute to published scientific work.
