This program cultivates analytical and quantitative abilities valuable for diverse career paths in economics and related fields.
Our economics instruction employs rigorous technical methods. Econometrics—using statistical techniques to analyze data and estimate economic models—forms a core element of the curriculum. The initial two years feature compulsory courses in macroeconomics, microeconomics, mathematics, statistics, and econometrics, establishing a solid base for advanced study in the final year.
Students can enhance this foundation by selecting from numerous elective modules offered by the School of Economics, University of Bristol Business School, and other university departments. The selection of optional courses expands throughout the program, enabling specialization in preferred economic disciplines.
In the concluding year, all students undertake an applied economics dissertation while choosing from diverse optional units. Recent offerings have included Behavioral Economics, Data Science, Corporate Finance, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, International Economics, and Operations Management.
The Study Abroad option extends the program to four years, with the third year spent studying economics at an international partner institution. This pathway merges the comprehensive academic rigor of our economics degree with global exposure, fostering cultural awareness and reflecting the economy's international character. The experience combines our program's challenging curriculum with overseas study that develops intercultural understanding and global economic perspectives.
