Econometrics applies statistical techniques to economic data for modeling and analysis. Economists rely on it to evaluate theories and assess how policies and events influence economic conditions. This program merges economic theory with econometric practice, offering diverse elective options.
For economists, econometrics serves as an essential methodology since, unlike laboratory sciences where variables can be isolated, economic systems can't be frozen for single-factor experimentation. The discipline offers empirical solutions to this challenge through observational data analysis.
In addition to core econometrics coursework and an applied economics research project, students can choose from numerous electives across the Economics School, Business School, and other university departments, tailoring their studies to specific interests. Past offerings have featured: Behavioral Economics, Environmental Economics, Data Science, and Contemporary Economic Issues.
The Study Abroad option expands the program to four years, with the third year spent at a prestigious international university before returning to Bristol for the final year. This variation maintains the rigorous academic standards of our economics curriculum while incorporating global exposure that fosters cultural awareness and aligns with today's interconnected economic landscape.
