Biochemists explore life at the molecular level, forming the foundation for our comprehension of human health and illness while advancing practical applications such as pharmaceutical development, diagnostic tools, and biotechnological innovations. Our Biochemistry program engages you in pioneering research while cultivating advanced analytical and critical thinking abilities that open doors to varied professional paths.
During your initial two years, you'll enhance your biochemistry studies with elective modules in molecular biology and biotechnology. Past offerings have included Essential Principles of Molecular Microbiology, Pathology and Protection, along with Infectious Diseases and Immune Responses.
The third year delves into advanced, contemporary biochemistry topics including engineered biological systems, nucleic acid-protein relationships, and therapeutic and technological applications of proteins.
Your final-year research initiative will connect you with our globally recognized research teams, enabling concentrated exploration of specific biochemical phenomena. These innovative projects might involve creating synthetic proteins, identifying novel marine-derived pharmaceuticals, or investigating cellular repair processes.
We equip you for professional success through career-focused workshops and opportunities for summer research placements. Alumni from our biochemistry programs have progressed to postgraduate studies (MSc/PhD), entered pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, joined healthcare systems, pursued medical training, entered education, forensic science, government roles, scientific publishing, financial services, management consulting, intellectual property law, science journalism, and other fields.
