For those with a creative flair and passion for design who want to enhance our built environment, civil engineering offers the perfect path. This program prepares you to tackle worldwide environmental challenges while designing significant and distinctive structures that define our communities - from skyscrapers and bridges to vital infrastructure like water systems, transportation networks, and sustainable energy solutions.
Bristol provides access to cutting-edge laboratory resources, featuring Europe's most sophisticated earthquake simulation platform.
Our Year in Industry option allows students to apply their first two years of learning in a professional setting during their third year. While direct enrollment isn't available, high-achieving BEng Civil Engineering students may transfer after excelling academically and passing a placement interview.
The initial two years establish core engineering competencies covering mathematics, structural principles, geotechnics, fluid dynamics, computational methods, and land surveying, alongside elective modules. Your final year focuses on a substantial research initiative while honing essential professional capabilities including project leadership, business innovation, economic principles, and risk assessment.
Design forms the cornerstone of our curriculum, demonstrated through practical projects addressing actual engineering challenges. First-year students create sustainable responses to open-ended problems like model bridge construction, while second-year studies encompass steel frameworks, concrete reinforcement, earthwork design, and hydraulic engineering.
We develop tomorrow's civil engineering leaders, with our alumni being highly recruited by premier organizations across consulting firms, construction corporations, utility providers, defense sectors, transit authorities, energy producers, and environmental agencies.
