This combined English and Classical Studies program merges exploration of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations with the examination of English literary works across all eras, many of which engage with or reinterpret classical themes.
Both components of the degree allow you to pursue your personal interests through elective modules, including options to study Latin or Ancient Greek languages.
You'll have opportunities to analyze classical art forms like epic poetry or theater alongside their contemporary counterparts in English literature. Throughout your studies - benefiting from classical traditions' profound influence on Western culture - your understanding of ancient texts will deeply enrich your interpretation of later literary works.
For your final year dissertation, you can either develop a comparative project bridging both disciplines or concentrate exclusively on material from either the English or Classical Studies portion of the program.
