Our civil engineering faculty and PhD candidates are pioneering research on how materials, soils, structures, and engineered systems interact with natural forces, ranging from creating advanced construction materials to evaluating sustainable coastal protection strategies.
Much of our research has practical applications. For instance, findings from our Sustainability and Resilience Engineering Research Group (SuRE) inform structural designs in seismic zones, optimize maintenance of critical infrastructure like bridges, and enhance foundation engineering for wind energy systems.
Civil Engineering PhD candidates engage with diverse aspects of the field, including interdisciplinary projects bridging geology, geography, and environmental science. This cross-disciplinary approach equips graduates with practical problem-solving skills and strong career prospects.
