The Master of Arts in International Relations and Security Studies examines key issues in peace and conflict research, covering: warfare, violent conflicts, and security development across nations and regions, addressing weapons of mass destruction, conventional arms spread, political extremism and terrorism, the evolution and functioning of global and regional organizations, historical and current cross-border issues in diplomacy, and modern worldwide concerns like environmental decline, illicit trade/criminal networks, and population movements. Students will gain sophisticated academic knowledge and policy-relevant expertise in global relations and security, plus analytical abilities highly sought after in government, non-governmental organizations, and advocacy groups. The program offers specialized tracks, allowing focus on specific geographic areas (Europe, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, Asia, or Latin America and the Caribbean) with optional study trips, or thematic concentrations such as global governance, contemporary diplomacy, security analysis, or political violence and extremism. Instruction is provided by the Division of Peace Studies and International Development, renowned worldwide for its outstanding research, education, training, and policy involvement (particularly in disarmament and arms regulation). Consequently, teaching is not only grounded in cutting-edge research but also conducted by faculty members who can effectively bridge academic study with real-world policy and practice.
