Earning a PGCE Primary (QTS) certification prepares you to be a highly desirable teacher, ready to motivate, instruct, and guide young learners toward a more promising tomorrow

Our PGCE Primary program offers valuable partnerships with numerous local schools, and the vibrant communities we work with will enhance your learning journey. After joining the PGCE primary course, you can choose to focus on either the 3-7 or 5-11 age groups. Those selecting the 3-7 specialization will complete placements in both Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1, while 5-11 specialization students will gain experience in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 classrooms.

Throughout the program, you'll be encouraged to make well-reasoned teaching choices that support your professional growth. After successfully finishing your PGCE, you'll receive 80 credits toward a Master's degree, with the option to return part-time to complete your postgraduate qualification.

Qualification Requirements

All applicants to the Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Education must hold a degree from a UK Higher Education Institution. Normally, this should be a 2:2 or above (and this will be a condition of any offer where the degree is not already awarded).

You must have a GCSE in Mathematics and English (Grade 4 or above*), or an equivalent qualification which must be attained prior to making an application. GCSE Science (Grade 4) must be attained as a condition of entry, where this has not already been obtained. If you are offering a qualification other than a GCSE please check with us before making an application.

You must also:

complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before taking up a place.
complete relevant checks to ensure you have the health and physical capacity to teach.
agree to abide by the University of Birmingham Code of Professional Conduct and Fitness to Practise.

TOEFL - 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking and 21 in Writing
IELTS - 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band
