Medical and dentistry students have the option to pause their degree for a year to enroll in one of our intercalated programs. The Health Management and Leadership program is among the pioneering offerings in the UK, allowing students to examine how management and leadership influence healthcare systems. Today, all medical professionals increasingly interact with management and leadership, regardless of their workplace—be it hospitals, general practices, or community settings—and whether or not they hold formal managerial roles. For instance, many physicians eventually assume leadership positions (such as clinical director or medical director) during their careers. This course introduces the principles and applications of management and leadership in healthcare environments.

Throughout this year, you'll focus on a specialized subject, build skills in evaluating research literature, and gain hands-on experience in original research. With guidance from program instructors, you'll design your own research project. Responsibilities include obtaining ethical approval (when necessary, excluding literature reviews or secondary data studies), participant recruitment, data collection and analysis, and compiling your findings. If you're interested in publishing your project post-completion, assistance will be provided. We're currently investigating opportunities for international research projects in Health Management and Leadership, including potential collaborations in Europe and South America.
