Since the 1990s, religious matters have increasingly shaped national and global political landscapes. This trend became starkly evident after the September 11, 2001 attacks and subsequent global developments. These circumstances have compelled political scholars to give religion greater consideration, while religious scholars must now engage with political dimensions of theological subjects. Whether examining theological concepts through a political lens or political phenomena through religious frameworks, both fields face new demands: theologians frequently lack sufficient political science knowledge, and political scientists often have limited formal education in religious studies. This master's program aims to equip students with sophisticated insights into current discussions about religion's influence on world politics, particularly as faith continues to significantly impact national governance and international relations.
