This course focuses on examining grand historical themes through a detailed lens.

By working at an expanded scale beyond traditional historical approaches, our Global History specialization offers you the chance to develop increasing confidence and creativity in understanding your world - its beginnings, intricate nature, and ongoing changes across an exceptionally wide geographical and temporal range.

You'll learn cutting-edge methodologies, theories, and analytical frameworks while engaging with the stimulating intellectual possibilities emerging in this dynamic historical discipline. From this expansive viewpoint, you'll select your own focused research project, leading to a guided 15,000-word dissertation.

Departmental research covers periods from medieval to contemporary times, exploring diverse subjects including China's imperial era, early modern domestic material culture, and the role of NGOs in 20th-century Britain.
