The Chemistry with Foundation Year is a one-year program tailored for students whose qualifications don't meet the direct entry requirements for our Honours degree courses. This option also appeals to mature learners seeking refresher training before starting a degree. Chemistry students gain hands-on experience in the Collaborative Teaching Laboratory (CTL), equipped with cutting-edge instruments and designed to provide an immersive, practical learning environment. Here, you'll engage in innovative experiments alongside research teams from our School and external partners, revolutionizing traditional teaching methods.
Additionally, you'll have access to the state-of-the-art Molecular Sciences Building, the School of Chemistry's new £80 million home. This facility combines advanced research labs with dedicated student workspaces, serving as a hub for research innovation and educational collaboration. We take pride in delivering contemporary teaching approaches, supported by top-tier facilities and digital learning tools. Our skill-focused curriculum features experiments co-developed by our research teams and industry partners, shaping you into highly competent practical chemists. With over a century of excellence in chemistry education and research – including producing Nobel laureates – we invite you to aim high, where your potential knows no bounds.
