The Joint Honours Sociology and Criminology program offers a unique chance to examine two complementary fields that shed light on social deviance. Sociology provides a foundational social science lens that both enriches and benefits from criminological perspectives, while criminology focuses on crime's origins and society's reactions to it.
Enrolling in the Sociology and Criminology BA allows students to not only grasp each discipline independently but also, more importantly, comprehend the interactions and tensions between these interconnected areas of study.
Throughout this BA program, you'll explore theoretical frameworks in both subjects and identify social patterns across these domains. You'll examine how society perceives and addresses deviance, control mechanisms, and social harms through policy decisions, digital media, and collective attitudes. Additionally, you'll learn fundamental social research techniques, evaluating different data sources and methodologies for their advantages, limitations, and applications.
