The program also features a research component through the dissertation project. Course accreditation Our Social Work programs are approved by Social Work England. Professional registration with SWE is mandatory for employment in this field. What you'll study The Social Work MSc program delivers thorough theoretical knowledge and practical abilities for professional social work. Significant emphasis is placed on experiential learning, particularly in our Skills Development and Initial 70-Day Placement module. This prepares you with fundamental capabilities for fieldwork, where you'll showcase core competencies in assisting individuals, families, and communities. The Working with People: Theories and Methods for Social Work Practice module combines theoretical frameworks with practical communication techniques to foster productive relationships with clients and colleagues. The Human Development for Social Work Practice module strengthens your grasp of inclusive practices, applying these concepts to human development to better comprehend diverse social work scenarios. Assessment methods Academic progress is evaluated through various formats including reflective papers, case analyses, presentations, research projects, exams, and workplace learning documentation. These assessments bridge theory and practice while honing your ability to articulate ideas clearly for different contexts. An early summative assignment helps establish graduate-level expectations, with tutors offering comprehensive support through individual sessions, seminars, and workshops. Practice-based learning is guided by field instructors and workplace mentors, with evaluations conducted via portfolio submissions aligned with the Professional Capabilities Framework (BASW 2018). Your personal tutor assists throughout placements, ensuring learning objectives from initial placements inform subsequent training plans. The comprehensive assessment strategy progressively builds your confidence and independence, culminating in a demonstration of all competencies required for entry-level social work practice. Career prospects This SWE-approved program leads to meaningful professional opportunities. Graduates earn a postgraduate qualification and eligibility for Social Work England registration, enabling careers in local government, private organizations, and charitable institutions across the UK.
