It operates in parallel with our MA Childhood Youth and Family Studies: Youth Work Pathway. You'll examine the theoretical foundations, practical applications, research methodologies, and policy frameworks that shape services for children, youth, and families, while gaining expertise in children's rights, welfare obligations, and their real-world implementation. What You'll Learn Our MA in Childhood, Youth and Family Studies equips you with the expertise to thrive in careers involving children, adolescents, and family systems. A core component is our Effective and Ethical Practice unit, where you'll master relationship-building techniques and engagement strategies for working with families across social care, youth services, healthcare, justice systems, and educational institutions. The curriculum introduces theoretical approaches to human services, intervention methodologies, and practical communication skills, while addressing the complexities of working with resistant clients. You'll develop conflict resolution strategies and learn to navigate challenging dynamics through anti-oppressive, ethically-grounded approaches. Through our Dimensions of Childhood, Youth and Families unit, you'll explore contemporary theories and apply them to practical situations. Crucially, you'll gain vital skills in child protection, risk assessment, and professional development to advocate effectively for young people and families. The program offers specialized optional units, including Young People, Group Offending and Violent Crime, where you'll examine international research and criminological theories to understand youth violence patterns and develop evidence-based intervention strategies, considering socioeconomic and cultural influences. Additional specialization options include Coaching and Mentoring Practice, applicable across professional contexts, and our Contextual Safeguarding unit analyzing adolescent abuse dynamics. This module explores contemporary safeguarding frameworks addressing extra-familial risks. The Conceptual Framework unit critically evaluates policy-shaping theories concerning children's services, with emphasis on structural inequalities. Career Pathways This qualification enhances professional opportunities by deepening your understanding of youth experiences and service systems. Graduates typically pursue roles in youth services, social welfare, or education sectors specializing in child/family work.
