What You'll Study Our Applied Linguistics (TESOL) MA program provides comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in applied linguistics and English language teaching. Since language is context-dependent, our Language System and Language Teaching unit explores phonological, grammatical, and lexical systems while demonstrating how they create meaning. Concurrently, our Teaching Practice unit offers classroom and online teaching experience, helping you develop lesson plans and refine your instructional techniques. To enhance your teaching methods, the Methodology of Language Teaching unit encourages innovative approaches through critical analysis of various language teaching strategies and their applications in Second Language Acquisition (SLA). Our Materials Development unit focuses on evaluating, adapting, and designing learning materials for diverse learner groups. Additionally, you'll explore theoretical connections between SLA research and TESOL practices in preparation for your dissertation. The program culminates with a Dissertation in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching, where you'll conduct independent research under faculty supervision. Our Exploring Research unit equips you with essential research methodologies and ethical considerations in social sciences. These components collectively prepare you for TEFL certification aligned with British Council requirements. Career Opportunities Graduates earn TEFL Q status, qualifying them to teach English worldwide under British Council standards.
