This program serves as an excellent foundation if you're considering pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) after graduation but aren't ready to specialize in primary or secondary education yet.
You'll develop a strong foundation in English Literature, a core National Curriculum subject, while also acquiring essential knowledge of educational concepts, literary movements and styles, and linguistic applications. The curriculum allows you to examine society's use of language, evolving perspectives on childhood, Shakespearean works, and educational philosophy.
Starting in your second year, you can customize your studies through elective modules that align with your personal interests and professional goals. These may include creative writing, teaching methodologies, diverse literary eras from Renaissance to contemporary works, youth media studies, educational psychology, and disability representation. The program encourages critical analysis of sociopolitical contexts, cultural dynamics, and interpersonal relationships while honing your ability to evaluate texts, recognize perspectives, and enhance both written and verbal communication abilities.
