Taking a research-driven stance, MA Cities reimagines traditional urban planning, renewal, and community development while serving as a hub for pioneering civic engagement models.

MA Cities addresses urgent urban social, ethical and ecological issues while investigating impactful global alternatives. Participants will tackle evolving urban scenarios through inventive problem-solving to meet contemporary and emerging urban design needs. MA Cities views urban environments as collective, negotiated territories shaped by diverse actors and interest groups. The program facilitates partnerships across artistic, design and architectural disciplines, working with external collaborators to share knowledge. Learners will gain hands-on experience with municipal and urban development contexts through direct work with local authorities, renewal organizations, and spatial practitioners. The course also maintains global partnerships to incorporate international insights and establish itself as a center for cross-border dialogue on innovative urban transformation.

The standard entry requirements for students for this course are as follows

An upper secondclass honours degree in a relevant field including but not limited to Architecture Design all forms Anthropology Fine Art Theatre Geography Landscape Urban Studies Urban Planning Engineering Environmental Science Literature Postcolonial Studies Politics Cognitive Sciences Computer Science Performance UXUI Communications Media Film Writing Journalism

OR

An equivalent EU international qualification

AND

Academic or creative experience working in fields such as architecture urban regional and strategic planning policy economics production curation community collaboration and engagement engineering construction project management transport planning environmental strategy speculative and critical design film media installation interaction design industrial design or other forms of independent and professional practice related to citymaking

The course aims to recruit postexperience candidates who have graduate-level qualifications and a minimum of one year work experience The course will not normally recruit from endon students ie those progressing directly from undergraduate degrees

IELTS level 6.5 or above with at least 5.5 in reading writing listening and speaking

TOEFL IBT - valid for 2 years - Score Required - 90 - Listening - 17, Reading - 18, Writing - 17, Speaking - 20.
TOEFL iBT Home Edition is NOT accepted.
