The MSc in Petroleum Engineering is collaboratively developed with industry partners and incorporates petroleum geology studies to cultivate top-tier engineers ready for careers in the upstream oil and gas sector.

This program equips students with essential expertise to conduct comprehensive prospect assessments and formulate effective oil and gas field development strategies.

Leveraging decades of academic excellence, the MSc Petroleum Engineering combines instruction from the School of Engineering and Geology & Geophysics Department, supplemented by industry professionals. The curriculum spans critical areas such as petroleum geoscience fundamentals, advanced recovery techniques, reservoir modeling, and production engineering, with special emphasis on formation analysis and reservoir engineering simulations.

Through this program, students gain proficiency in evaluating and implementing optimal technologies for safe hydrocarbon extraction, including practical training with industry-standard simulation tools across all petroleum engineering disciplines.

2:1 (upper second class) UK Honours degree, or an Honours degree from a non-UK institution which is judged by the University to be of equivalent worth in any branch of Engineering or Applied Mathematics.
Those with a High 2:2 Honours degree in Engineering or Applied Mathematics may also be considered if they can demonstrate 2+ years of relevant experience.
Students with Geology, Physics or Chemistry degrees may be considered if they have a 2:1 degree AND 2+ years relevant work experience.
