Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to dominate technological discussions, with innovations like ChatGPT and breakthroughs in automation and machine learning transforming healthcare, entertainment, and customer service sectors. This comprehensive program explores every facet of AI, from foundational principles to advanced methodologies reshaping our daily lives, education, careers, and social interactions—creating pathways to exciting opportunities in this rapidly evolving domain.
In collaboration with The Data Lab, the School of Natural and Computing Science is providing two tuition scholarships for eligible students under the Scottish Government's Residency requirements, starting the MSc Artificial Intelligence program in September 2023.
The MSc Artificial Intelligence curriculum delves into the theoretical foundations of diverse AI disciplines, encompassing data/text mining, machine learning, reasoning systems, natural language processing, knowledge representation, and distributed AI architectures. Students will master both the core principles and practical applications, including relevant technologies, tools, and methodologies for solving real-world challenges.
Participants will develop expertise in designing and assessing AI systems while examining the legal and ethical implications surrounding AI development. The program concludes with a research project supervised by faculty members, with potential collaboration opportunities with external businesses. These projects often involve enhancing existing AI frameworks, developing novel solutions, or evaluating different approaches to specific problems.
The program's curriculum reflects cutting-edge AI research. With three decades of internationally recognized expertise, the University of Aberdeen specializes in machine learning, data science, natural language generation, and multi-agent systems. As one of the institution's five key research priorities, the AI department maintains strong connections with the University's Centre for Data and Artificial Intelligence.

Notable achievements include ARRIA NLG, a global leader in natural language generation that originated from University research. Through partnerships with industry leaders like The Data Lab, Intel AI Academy, IBM, Intelligent Plant, and Aberdeen City Council, students gain valuable practical experience via training sessions, networking events, and professional placements.
