At Aberdeen, the German and Spanish & Latin American Studies program brings together two significant modern languages from Europe and beyond, both highly valuable in global business, within top-tier academic courses. You'll explore the rich histories, arts, and cultures of both languages while enhancing your fluency through immersive experiences in native-speaking countries. This opens doors to diverse international career paths and equips you with transferable skills prized by employers across industries. Regardless of your starting proficiency, you'll build a strong foundation in German through a program recognized as Excellent in the latest Teaching Quality Assessment.
The curriculum also provides comprehensive insights into German-speaking cultures, covering social, historical, and artistic dimensions through literature, cinema, and visual arts, alongside Germany's intricate past. Similarly, Aberdeen's Spanish program, also rated Excellent, prepares you to engage with a worldwide language used by 350 million native speakers across 19 Latin American nations, Spain, and the growing Hispanic population in the US. You'll analyze historical, literary, and cultural materials, including films and visual media. A key feature of this five-year degree is spending your third year abroad—dividing time between Germany/Austria and Spain—either as a teaching assistant or exchange student to refine your language abilities.
