At Aberdeen, our Applied Mathematics program delivers an exceptional mathematical education within a vibrant academic community, emphasizing real-world applications to enhance our understanding of today's challenges.
Mathematics goes beyond mere calculations—it cultivates logical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, decision-making skills, and fundamental comprehension of how systems operate, all of which are highly valued by employers. Graduates with mathematical expertise are sought after in diverse fields such as technology, finance, engineering, and education.
While pure mathematics focuses on theoretical problem-solving and mathematical concept development, applied mathematics utilizes these theories to address practical challenges in science, engineering, and physics. Many foundational theories from pure mathematics eventually prove invaluable for applied mathematicians and professionals in related disciplines.
Our Applied Mathematics BSc curriculum includes the essential courses found in the pure Mathematics BSc degree, supplemented by specialized subjects like Engineering Mathematics and Advanced Calculus. Students can also select from various optional courses spanning mathematics and physics disciplines.
Both the BSc and MA Mathematics degrees share identical core mathematics components. The distinction between MA and BSc programs lies in the selection of supplementary elective courses that accompany the core mathematics curriculum.
