Studying Law and German Law at Aberdeen provides all the advantages of our renowned academic breadth, depth, and excellence at Aberdeen Law School – ranked 5th for student satisfaction (NSS 2022). This five-year program includes the unique benefit of exploring the German legal system and spending an academic year abroad.
Aberdeen's Law program examines the historical, social, political, and economic factors shaping legal frameworks and societal governance. Rather than merely memorizing laws, you'll develop true legal reasoning skills. Our outstanding faculty, known for their expertise and passion, will challenge you with intricate, real-world legal scenarios as you master criminal, public, and private law, legal systems, contracts, human rights, and delve into family law, property law, and EU legal matters. Numerous student-led activities like mock trials, our vibrant Law Society, the student journal (where your work may be published), and the Aberdeen Law Project community clinic will help refine your legal abilities. Like all our joint degrees, this program provides comprehensive training in Scots Law for the LLB qualification. Additionally, you'll study German language courses throughout and spend your entire third year at one of Germany's prestigious universities (Marburg, Freiburg, or Regensburg) through the Erasmus Exchange Program. While many graduates pursue legal careers, over a third of Aberdeen law alumni leverage their degree as a gateway to diverse fields including business (where you'll be highly competitive), media, finance, banking, education, government, and law enforcement.
