Studying Law and French Law at Aberdeen provides all the advantages of our renowned comprehensive, in-depth, diverse and high-quality education at Aberdeen Law School, ranked 5th among 90 UK institutions with 93% student satisfaction. You'll gain the additional benefit of exploring the French legal system while spending one year of this five-year program abroad.
The Law program at Aberdeen examines the historical, social, political, and economic factors shaping legal systems and societal governance. Rather than merely memorizing laws, you'll develop a lawyer's analytical mindset. Our exceptional faculty plays a key role in this quality education, challenging you with intricate, practical legal scenarios as you master criminal, public, and private law, legal frameworks, contracts, human rights, and delve into family law, property law, and EU legal matters. Numerous student-driven activities like mock trials, our vibrant Law Society, the student journal (where your work may be featured), and our community legal clinic - the Aberdeen Law Project - provide ample opportunities to refine your legal skills. Like all our joint programs, you'll receive comprehensive training in Scots Law for the LLB degree, enhanced by studying French law, continuous French language courses, and a full third year in France pursuing either the Diploma in French Law (in Grenoble, Lyon, or Clermont Ferrand) or the Certificate in Legal Studies from Reims or Strasbourg universities.
For those pursuing legal careers, numerous professional paths exist within the field. However, over one-third of Aberdeen law graduates now leverage their degree as a gateway to diverse careers in business, media, finance, banking, education, government agencies, and law enforcement.
