This program combines two highly sought-after disciplines to cultivate skilled Geophysicists. Geology explores Earth's composition and processes: its minerals, rocks, their structures, and interactions both above and below the surface. It also focuses on deciphering Earth's history, including the evolution of life, and forecasting future geological phenomena. Geophysics employs mathematics, physics principles, and computational models to examine Earth's interior and analyze its electromagnetic and gravitational fields.
While these fields might seem distinct at first glance, they're closely connected. Geophysicists address similar challenges as Geologists, but utilize physics-based approaches, numerical modeling, and computer technology to investigate Earth's interior and locate natural resources. Whether you're curious about volcanic eruptions, earthquake mechanisms, dinosaur extinction, mountain formation, fossil fuel origins and extraction, or climate change patterns, a Geophysicist can provide the answers.
