This research group conducts investigations across diverse laboratory settings, encompassing a broad range of scientific pursuits including:
foundational studies like exploring the structure-function relationships of innovative therapeutic receptors in gene regulatory areas, creating 2D and 3D cellular models to examine biological mechanisms,
practical implementations such as designing sensors, treatments, imaging technologies, and targeted delivery methods for cancer therapy, antimicrobial applications, or bone regeneration, and
clinical applications including guiding therapeutic prescriptions.
These endeavors benefit from on-site resources including NMR spectroscopy, Mass Spectrometry, fluorescence imaging, advanced microscopy techniques like TEM and AFM, cell & tissue culture capabilities, animal research facilities, chemical synthesis laboratories, and pharmaceutical development spaces.
Ulster University's Biomedical Science program maintains an exceptional, consistent research reputation, acknowledged in REF2021 as internationally distinguished and pioneering, placing 5th among 89 UK institutions in Allied Health Professions - a field incorporating biomedical sciences, nursing, nutrition, pharmacy, optometry, health sciences, and precision medicine. Our research not only generates world-class outcomes but also demonstrates substantial global implementation, benefitting healthcare practitioners, industries, communities, and specialized patient populations.
