As a research-focused department, we foster a dynamic academic environment that spans multiple disciplines and involves extensive partnerships with external organizations. In the REF2021 assessment, our performance matched that of top UK research universities and conservatoires. We achieved joint first place nationally for research impact, while our research environment received 100% recognition as either world-leading or internationally excellent. Over 50% of our publications and practice-based outputs were also rated in these top two tiers. The synergy between music, drama, film/screen studies, and heritage creates a thriving research community that bridges theory and practice while offering interdisciplinary possibilities.
