Ulster University led the way in establishing Communication and Media Studies as an academic discipline, launching among the first dedicated degree programs in the UK and Ireland back in 1978. In the latest REF 2021 assessment, a remarkable 77% of our research was rated as either world-class or internationally outstanding. Our research achievements stand out particularly in output quality, with world-leading publications increasing nearly threefold since the previous assessment period. This performance ranks our research unit second among nine in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, and fourth across all 18 research units university-wide. The REF 2021 panel specifically highlighted the exceptional standard of our work in 'Cultural Studies', 'Television', 'Film', and 'Screen Studies', and we actively encourage applications focusing on these interconnected fields (interpreted broadly). We're especially interested in proposals exploring Psychosocial Studies, Radical Politics and Social Movements, Cycling Cultures, The Politics of Everyday Life and Popular Culture, Emerging Media, Media Policy, and Political Communication.
