This program stands out in Ireland for its comprehensive coverage of diverse infrastructure fields including water management, waste systems, structural engineering, transportation networks, traffic safety, project leadership, and sustainable practices, with a particular focus on design principles. The curriculum addresses core aspects of civil and infrastructure engineering while preparing graduates for professional accreditation. Industry professionals and research-focused academics collaborate to deliver interdisciplinary instruction in design and sustainability, all framed within sustainable development approaches. The course satisfies the academic requirements for Chartered Engineer status for holders of accredited BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering degrees (Further Learning). Additionally, it serves as a technical master's pathway for IEng-qualified professionals seeking Chartered membership through individual routes with four major institutions: ICE, IStructE, CIHT, and IHE.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants should either possess an Honours degree or equivalent qualification, in a Civil Engineering or similar area from a recognised institution or an equivalent professional qualification, for MSc entry. Entry to the PgDip may be from a non-honours degree for those seeking chartered status via a technically focussed MSc. Exceptionally, we will admit students with non-engineering related qualifications provided they have significant industry /professional experience. In exceptional circumstances, where an individual has substantial and significant experiential learning, a portfolio of written evidence demonstrating the meeting of the graduate qualities (including subject specific outcomes, specified by the Course Committee) may be considered as an alternative entrance route. Evidence used to demonstrate graduate qualities may not be used for exemption against modules within the programme.
