The pre-registration MSc Dietetics program is designed to equip science graduates with essential knowledge and professional skills needed to qualify as registered dietitians (RDs), while also cultivating advanced research capabilities.
As regulated healthcare professionals, dietitians evaluate, diagnose, and address nutritional issues for individuals and communities. They apply cutting-edge scientific research and public health findings about food, nutrition, and disease, translating this knowledge into actionable advice to help people make informed dietary and lifestyle decisions.
This intensive 20-month program leverages students' previous education, offering both theoretical and practical training in food science, nutrition, and their impact on health. The curriculum covers: Applied Nutrition, Biochemistry and Molecular Nutrition, Food Microbiology, Research Methods and Biostatistics, Nutritional Assessment, Dietary Guidelines, Diet-Related Disorders, Public Health Nutrition, and an independent research component. Through these modules, students learn about disease origins, progression, biochemical processes, and treatment approaches - knowledge they then apply during clinical placements to enhance wellbeing, manage acute and chronic conditions, and deliver quality patient care, preparing them for autonomous practice across various healthcare environments, including the NHS.
