The Ulster MPharm program aims to train pharmacy students to an exceptional level within a contemporary clinical context, enabling their seamless transition into a progressive healthcare profession committed to clinical excellence and a thorough grasp of pharmaceutical principles for therapeutic drug use. This MPharm curriculum delivers rigorous academic and practical pharmacy education, supported by essential scientific foundations (pharmaceutical sciences) and professional competencies (pharmacy practice and patient care).
Our MPharm program provides a cutting-edge, integrated Master's-level pharmacy education that satisfies both university standards and the accreditation criteria of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI). Students will gain the expertise, comprehension, abilities, and practical training necessary to oversee the production, regulation, distribution, and administration of medications. The program also includes in-depth exploration of drug mechanisms, development, formulation, and application.
Pharmacy is currently undergoing transformative changes. Recent government reforms require pharmacy schools to produce graduates equipped with clinical competencies for patient-focused care, emphasizing a more clinically oriented MPharm. To enhance clinical education quality, the recommendation is for pharmacy schools to expand their practice faculty and incorporate greater input from active pharmacists at Ulster. In Coleraine, we're addressing this by designing a curriculum that builds a robust foundational knowledge before advancing into clinical and professional pharmacy practice. Modules will be taught by working pharmacists, ensuring students benefit from both theoretical knowledge and real-world experience.
