Established in 1979, the MFA Fine Art Course stands as one of the UK and Ireland's most prestigious and enduring studio-based Fine Art programs. Based in Belfast, this long-running MFA program offers a rigorous studio curriculum supported by a faculty of nationally and internationally acclaimed visiting artists. The program fosters creative exploration through diverse teaching methods within studio settings and broader environments, reflecting varied artistic approaches and contexts.
We view contemporary art practice as inclusive and multifaceted, promoting exchange across different disciplines. Our multidisciplinary/inter-media framework allows students to work flexibly, supporting highly individualized artistic development. Students are encouraged to investigate creative processes that incorporate conventional exhibition formats while exploring alternative models of production, presentation, and engagement. Through critical discussion and self-reflection, the program deepens understanding of contemporary art within broader cultural, social, and political frameworks.

Qualification Requirements
Applicants must hold a degree with at least 2:1 Honours standard or equivalent or demonstrate their ability to undertake the course through the accreditation of prior experiential learning (APEL).
Applicants must be able to satisfy the panel via portfolio and/or interview that their work is of a required standard that will allow them to deal with the creative, intellectual and material rigours of the course.
IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5., TOEFL iBT - 80 with a minimum L - 17 R - 18 S - 20 W - 17, PTE Academic - 55 (with min. of 51 in each part)
