This program provides a comprehensive curriculum spanning diverse historical fields. Participants can focus on specialized topics such as Irish history, post-1500 European developments (encompassing Russia and Soviet studies), medical history, British imperial relations, Mediterranean civilizations, and American history from the 1800s onward. Our approach fosters exploration in social, political, and cultural history, along with transnational studies and the history of emotions. The program also facilitates creative public history initiatives.
A key focus involves cultivating expertise in digital humanities and public engagement with history. For examples of student projects, visit https://uuhistorymasters.wordpress.com/. We maintain collaborative relationships with cultural institutions like the Ulster Museum and Museum of Free Derry, organizing regular museum visits throughout the program. Financial support is available for research travel within Ireland, Northern Ireland, and the UK to assist with MA thesis development. Participants will showcase their research at a concluding annual exhibition.
