Following recent policy updates, completing this qualification could open doors to teaching opportunities in secondary schools, especially for students aged 14 and above - provided you obtain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) certification. This program is particularly suitable for degree holders looking to teach their specialized subject across various educational environments.
Maths (numeracy) specialization students will undertake an extra subject knowledge enhancement module alongside standard PGCE Education and Training coursework. This supplementary component ensures comprehensive understanding of maths (numeracy) teaching requirements across different educational contexts. Through inquiry-based activities, you'll experience student assessment perspectives to enhance your teaching methodology.
Aligned with The Professional Standards for Teachers and Trainers, this course integrates academic rigor with extensive practical placements. The year-long full-time curriculum features five modules organized into four core areas (professional competencies, research, theory, and specialization), delivered progressively for deeper comprehension and application. Program components run simultaneously to foster interconnected learning.
Instruction commences with a concentrated two-week introductory phase, equipping you with fundamental teaching strategies and learning principles. This preparation ensures you're ready for teaching placements immediately afterward. The standard schedule involves three placement days (Monday-Wednesday) and two campus days (Thursday-Friday) weekly, plus regular professional development sessions and subject-specific workshops.
The schedule adjusts during two intensive four-week placement blocks, when participants follow standard school hours and participate in all relevant teaching activities. Additionally, you'll attend two full-day conferences with peers from partner institutions throughout the program.
