The lecture and project curriculum covers a broad spectrum of petroleum and geoenergy principles that are crucial in today's petroleum, CCUS, and hydrogen sectors. Through project work, students can implement concepts and techniques learned in lectures and tutorials to address practical field evaluation and development challenges. This hands-on program ensures graduates are technically equipped for industry careers.
Students can choose from three Master's degree pathways:
MSc Petroleum Engineering - one year full-time
MSc Petroleum Engineering - two years part-time
MSc Petroleum Engineering (with Advanced Practice) - two years full-time
The one-year program offers a conventional MSc qualification, while the two-year Advanced Practice option combines the master's coursework with either a vocational or research internship. Vocational internships provide valuable industry experience to strengthen your resume, while research internships develop analytical and academic skills through collaboration with research teams. While research internships are guaranteed, we offer guidance for securing vocational placements.
Our MSc Petroleum Engineering program holds accreditation from the Energy Institute, licensed by the Engineering Council, fulfilling the UK-SPEC requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
This professional accreditation facilitates chartered status attainment, enhances employment prospects, and boosts career advancement. Many employers prioritize candidates with accredited qualifications, with chartered petroleum engineers potentially earning over £100,000 annually.
Additionally accredited by the Energy Institute for the Engineering Council, this program meets Chartered Engineer registration requirements when combined with a CEng-accredited undergraduate degree.
