Digital forensics plays a central role in your academic journey, complementing computer science studies. You'll implement fundamental computer science concepts through cyber investigations, learning to gather, analyze, and understand digital evidence. The program focuses heavily on decoding raw digital information and honing reverse engineering capabilities. During hands-on labs, you'll work with professional-grade tools and methodologies, gaining insights into evidentiary intelligence from digital examinations. Our specialized forensics lab provides access to global industry-standard software for investigating various devices, from mobile phones and tablets to drones. The vehicle lab facilitates analysis of GPS and connected car systems, while our crime scene house enables digital examinations of smart home devices like voice assistants and security cameras. The evolving regulatory framework in digital forensics shapes this program. Collaborating with industry experts, we equip you with essential competencies and showcase diverse career paths. Our curriculum incorporates ISO 17025 standards and includes legal training using mock courtroom facilities. We maintain strong partnerships with regional police forces - Durham Constabulary, Cleveland Police, and North Yorkshire Police - with Durham Constabulary serving as a strategic partner offering research collaborations. This program also accommodates working professionals through flexible study options for digital forensics and cyber investigations. The two-year advanced practice master's extends the standard one-year program with either vocational or research internships. Vocational placements offer valuable industry experience to strengthen your resume, while research internships develop analytical and academic skills through collaboration with research teams. While research internships are guaranteed, we provide comprehensive support for students seeking vocational placements, including guidance on securing positions.
