You grow into an independent, competent clinician, focusing on the scientist-practitioner and reflective practitioner models, while becoming adept at evaluating research and making autonomous clinical judgments.
Your training covers all age groups—from children and adolescents to working-age and older adults—including those with special needs. You'll gain experience across multiple therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral, cognitive analytic, psychodynamic, and systemic methods. The program promotes indirect interventions and may offer unique organizational placement opportunities. Graduates earn a Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree upon completion.
This program is collaboratively run with your primary employer: Tees, Esk and Wear Valley's NHS Foundation Trust (serving County Durham, Darlington, Teesside, North Yorkshire, York, and Selby). Additional regional NHS Trusts also contribute to your training. Placements occur in various settings, including community and inpatient services, with potential rotations in specialized areas like perinatal and forensic care. Trainees should be prepared for assignments anywhere across the North East and Yorkshire region, which may require travel.
The neuropsychology curriculum at Teesside provides foundational knowledge and practical experience, serving as a stepping stone for those considering advanced specialization in clinical neuropsychology post-doctorate. This training may contribute toward partial accreditation for the University of Bristol's post-qualification Diploma in Neuropsychology and/or the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN) pathway.
