Counselling psychology focuses on exploring the causes of psychological distress and acquiring techniques to reduce it, while enhancing overall wellbeing and mental health.
The program covers fundamental psychology degree competencies, examining cognitive functions, neurological aspects, behavioral patterns, group dynamics, and childhood development's long-term effects. Additionally, it cultivates specialized counseling abilities valuable for various helping professions.
Coursework emphasizes mental wellness, therapeutic processes, eco-psychology, and the wounded healer concept. Students practice counseling techniques with peers while developing reflective practice skills. The final year involves community-based service evaluations with local organizations, with past projects addressing homelessness, youth mental health, addiction services, and veteran support programs.
While this program doesn't provide counselor certification, it equips students with transferable counseling competencies sought in education, housing, mental health, criminal justice, and nonprofit sectors. Graduates may also pursue advanced studies through our postgraduate offerings.
