Biomedical science explores diverse subject areas to uncover the origins, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases. As a biomedical scientist, you'll collaborate with clinicians and healthcare professionals across the NHS, private healthcare, and biotechnology sectors.
You'll conduct various clinical laboratory tests in pathology, immunology, and infectious disease management.
This program holds accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science, enabling you to train as a certified biomedical scientist. Graduates can pursue careers as accredited biomedical scientists or professionals within the biomedical field.
The curriculum covers essential topics including human anatomy, physiology, cell biology, pathology, biochemistry, genetics, immunology, and microbiology. You'll develop practical skills in laboratory protocols, COSHH compliance, health and safety regulations, quality control, and transferable abilities like presentations, report writing, independent research, and teamwork. Hands-on training comes from certified biomedical scientists at local hospitals and industry partners.
While based at our Middlesbrough campus, you may access specialized facilities at Darlington's National Horizons Centre. This £22.3 million biosciences hub serves as a central resource for regional research, education, and professional development in life sciences.
