The field of medical genetics is a dynamic and rapidly evolving discipline that significantly influences modern medicine, enabling us to comprehend, diagnose, and manage numerous genetic disorders.
The 4-year MSci program is an enhanced undergraduate degree that extends beyond the 3-year BSc by incorporating an additional year of intensive research. This provides comprehensive knowledge about the fundamental elements of all living organisms. While building upon our BSc in Medical Genetics curriculum, the MSci program offers specialized instruction in diverse laboratory methodologies, culminating in an extended research project during the final year.
This advanced degree delivers thorough understanding of life's essential components. Students will master techniques for examining gene expression, protein interactions, DNA architecture and mutations, microscopic analysis of biological molecules and cells, along with sophisticated computational analysis approaches.
Participants will cultivate strong analytical abilities and project coordination expertise while learning to devise experiments and organize research initiatives.
Graduates with a Medical Genetics degree can pursue various career paths such as: Biomedical research,
Pharmaceutical development and healthcare sciences, Advanced academic programs (MSc, MRes, PhD), Genetic counseling, Clinical laboratory science,
Medical school preparation, Physician assistant roles, Education, Science communication, Computational biology
This qualification also serves as excellent preparation for medical school, with numerous alumni successfully entering Swansea's Graduate Entry Medicine program.
